Scientists, students, and civil society representatives will gather for three weeks, through the Internet, at the Virtual International Congress. Among the topics are the green economy and the socio-productive inclusion by means of agriculture activities carried out by families. The idea is to discuss in advance, from 9 to 30 April, the themes that will be taken to the Rio + 20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which will take place from 13 to 22 June. The organization of the congress is under responsibility of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) and the Inter-American Institute for cooperation on agriculture. The Coordinator of the event by the MDA, William Abrahão, pointed out that one of the challenges is to place family farming as a channel for sustainable development within the Central debates of the Rio + 20. To be released on the second half of the year, and also to strengthen the commitment of the small farmer with environmental preservation, the MDA is finalizing a program focused on sustainable production. Through the distribution of booklets, conducting lectures and using digital technologies, the goal is to extensively reach all regions of the country. The Virtual International Congress is prepared to receive up to 10 thousand registrations, but the expectation of the Ministry is that 3 to 5 thousand people should participate. Enrollment is now open and is free of charge, on the page www.congressorio20.org.br, where further information about the event can also be found.
